My kittens will only eat the adult cat food and not the kitten chow we have. They also like to each corn on the cob and popcorn. What is wrong with them?

  1. Kitten food is apparently much richer than adult cat food, so maybe the kitten food is too rich for your little guys.  My one cat used to eat carpet fuzzies, paper, aluminum foil, and all kinds of other weird stuff, so I don't even try to understand what goes on in their fuzzy little heads.  Talk to your vet if your worried about making sure they get all the nutrition they need.  They may be able to recommend ways to supplement.

  2. Nothing. Consider yourself very lucky for them to be eating adult food. Usually it is vice versa, since adult cats like the high fat content of kitten chow. However, If your kittens are very young, you do want them to eat kitten chow because they need the fat and vitamins found in it. Corn on the Cob and popcorn is strange, but I guess the fat may attract them. The endosperm or "germ" of a corn kernel contains a decent amount of fat. Cats, unlike dogs, cannot taste sugar. A dog will eat a pack of twizzlers, a cat will not. They crave foods with fat. My cats eat anything that is faintly meaty and has fat in it. If your kittens are really quite new and  absolutley refuse their proper kitten chow, see a vet.

  3. They can't read.  There's not much difference between adult and kitten food, so you really have nothing to worry about.

Corn is in many cat foods, unfortunately, so cats are probably used to the taste of it.  Many cats have one or two weird things that they like to eat.

I wouldn't let it have any corn or popcorn though, as they're high in sugar/carbs and that's not healthy for a carnivore.

The occasional nibble won't kill them, but don't make it a regualr thing.

  4. As much as I've rallied against giving pets any human food - I do know that corn - plain corn (no butter or salt!) is ok in small amounts.  Too much and it can (and will) get diarrhea.  If the kitten is ok eating the food, and he/she is healthy and happy - let her go for it.

  5. did u start them off with the adult?

idk.. kitten is better, tho, has more proteins and such they need to grow healthy.

idk. u should give them daily vitamins u can find at wal-mart or any pet store.

  6. nothing is wrong...

they just dont like the kitten food.

you can try finding the same flavor in kitten food that may help.

    Good Luck

  7. I just got 2 new kittnes that do the SAME thing. Nothing is wrong with them. But I mix the adult WITH the kitten, so that they do eat it, but they get the nutrtion from the kitten food!
