my transformer (1000w) steps down 240 to 110v. i have a surge protector connected to that and then a stabilizer ( it has to wattage 600 and 1200, dont know which is used). i also have a upc connected to the stabilizer from here runs my pc. when i switch the computer on the transformer cuts off. after being unplugged for a while and plugged in again it comes on. it works fine with a charger. wat exactly could be the problem. should i get a new transformer. if yes wat wattage should it be?

  1. Your question is a little confusing.  Any transformer is magnetic.  Do you mean your stepdown transformer or the UPS.  (Not upc.)  If the stepdown is just a transformer, there's not much that should affect it and if something does it shouldn't need to be shut off and turned back on.  It simply runs when electricity is applied to it.  Are you sure it's the stepdown transformer that's shutting off.  It sounds more like the surge protector is tripping and then resetting itself after you remove the voltage from it by shutting off the transformer.  The starting current might be affecting the surge protector.  Look at that first.  It sounds like the UPS is keeping your computer running so that's not a problem.
