i know that male rats leave scent marks, but even when i put an old sweatshirt on, it goes right through, to my shirt, any ideas on why? i don'y know how old he is, but i only had him for a few weeks, but he was 1-2 months older than the other ratties, he is also medium sized, i don't know if that has anything 2 do with it. also he never uses his ball, i will put him in it, but he won't go anywhere, help?

  1. uhh rats pee its normal!

  2. My rats dont go anywhere in their ball either....i think its just they are intelligent enough to not get any fun out of Vertigo.

As for the peeing, its just in their nature. Male rats tend to pee everywhere. At least all of mine did. I think its easier to explain than scent marking, i think its just habit.

it might help to wear Rayon/Spandex shirts, they are less permeable to the rat urine. Or better yet, dont wear an undershirt/bra under the sweater...at least until you can find some way of "lessening his flow"....

Iv had something like 40 rats at different times in my life, and i have to say i prefer the small females, they seem to have a better disposition.

  3. he wants to s***w you.

  4. thats what rodents do they p**p and tinkle a lot.

the ball might freak the rat out.  would you want to be trapped in a little ball...if you did start running your p**p and tinkle would be flying all around you.

  5. Its exactly like you said, hes marking his territory. Trust me, I had a male rat 2, and he always peed on me =D

Male rats ave VERY territorial, and will constantly mark their sent

  6. It's just as you said, scent marking. Male rats (and even females to a lesser degree) will frequently dribble pee to mark things.

Most rats aren't terribly fond of balls. I hope your boy rat isn't alone? Rats should be kept in same s*x pairs or groups, not alone.

  14. Rodents will pee just abut any where.  Even in there own food.  When they drink water, they pee.  They don't marking there territory like dogs and cats do.  Rodents are not territorial.  So there is no need for them to mark it.

  15. cuz hes a rat and he knows he ain't supposed to be a pet

  16. Rats pee and p**p all the time - they have no control over when they do their bodily functions.
