I have a cali king that is 2 1/2 years old. When I hold him he opens his vent and releases a small drop of clear fluid. There isn't really an odor to it. Is this defensive behavior? He is very tame, so I'm not sure why he does this or what it is?? .

  1. Defensive behavior--May reduce with continued handling, but may never go away completely.  You say the snake is "Tame", but the reality is that snakes do not enjoy being handled and they feel nervous whenever handled.

  2. this is something that kingsnakes and milksnakes will do often. It is a defensive behavior and typically they will urinate or excrete a lot more if they are nervous and it can have a smell. Sounds like yours has it under control for the most part. I have had all kinds of snakes and reptiles that will pee when nervous and have learned w/ time to become less fearful and stop.
