Question:

Why does my maltese keep peeing everywhere?

Okay so I know all the basics about dogs and how they work, so please don't give me the stuff about how the dog might be confused or that I need to use a cleaner cause I have all that.

My dog, Elvis, is a one year old maltese, and he was neutered when he was about 4 months so that's not the problem.

He has usually been very good about peeing on the Wee-Wee pad up till recently. He rarely used anywhere else as a toilet, but for a few weeks now, he has been defecating or peeing on the carpeted floors and rugs. My mother and I immediately cleaned the affected area with this spray that we bought for that purpose, and also with strong soaps and water. But he keeps using other places, even though he pees on his Wee-wee pad also.

What could be wrong? Any dog experts around here?

Please help =) Thanks.

  1. I tend to agree with the comment that he could've simply got used to being allowed to pee indoors due to the pad you let him use. Perhaps the pad needs changing, I don't know how these pads work, I've never used such a product, but does it have a 'maximum' life?

Sounds like he also needs a proper toilet-training program. Personally I've never understood why owners allow their dogs to go to the toilet indoors at all - this is NOT a criticism, I just can't believe that people can't train their dogs to do it outdoors only. I've been brought up with dogs all my life, and I have my own rescue dog now, we've never allowed our dogs to go to the toilet anywhere indoors!

Contact a good dog trainer and get some advice on toilet training. You might have to go outside more often than you currently do, or make a few changes to encourage him to go to the toilet outside only, but you will feel the benefits :)

    Good luck!

  2. Get rid of the pad.  Using these shows the dog that it's okay to go inside the house.  Then if they go on the pad, they will figure it's okay to go other places inside the house as well.

Instead, teach them to go outside only.

  3. Your dog may be upset or basically bored

Get your dog a bone to chew on because my dog is well trained never eats shoes or pees but if I am gone a lot due to my work and don't have her a yummy braided bones she pays me back by letting me know w/ eating my shoes or going to the bathroom every where ~ that is her way of telling me I am not giving her what she is needing.

Also, get your dog some toys to throw to her around the house

Most likely Elvis will feel better and stop doing those naughty things

    Good Luck
