Why does my memory card works on my phone but not my freinds phone?

i have a lexar 2gb microsd and it works on my samsung blast phone but my friends sch-u900 from verisen says that there is nothing on it why

The pictures/videos you take from your phone may be formatted differently than the ones your friend's phone might take.  The card might fit, but it wont work.

Its the same thing that would happen with a camera.  I got two cameras for Christmas, I took a video with one camera, my friend broke it, and then put the memory card in my other camera and the video didnt work.
