have given her father lung cancer and killed him, and her second hand smoke has given me and my brother severe cases of asthma.

When I even bring up the subject of her quitting smoking she gets mad at me and starts calling me a smart ***. Why won't she stop?

  3. because she doesn't want to and she's addicted probably

  4. Maybe she's like me, she smokes because she likes it.

You have no business questioning her either. She's the mom, it's her house. You are the kids, when you move out, you can have it your way. Until then, you do as your told, and respect your mother.

Also, you can't get asthma from smoking. Asthma is a genetic disorder. You and your brother have it, because someone in your family has bad genes, and passed it on to you 2. But I guess it's easier to blame your mom, than admit that you have something wrong with you.

  5. Addicts of any kind are too self centered to care.  I had a boyfriend and he and I were both alcoholics and he was a chain smoker.  I quit drinking and he chose to keep both bad habits and after 4 years of sobriety and no promise of a real future, I dumped him and moved on. It is now 8 years since I dumped him and I have been sober 12 years and happily married to a non-drinker and non-smoker.  It is nice to not kiss an ash mouth.  Tell you mom to take her cancer driven coffin nails outside and away from you and your brother.  If she smokes in the car yank it out of her mouth. I hate smokers at the work place too because they take too many breaks leaving non-smokers to carry the burden.

  6. I think i understand you, so your mum is smoking and won't stop even though she knows that she could receive bad side effects because of it? If that's the case well here is the reason why. The reason why is because she is addicted to smoking. Once your addicted, it's really hard to stop. Though it's a miracle that some smokers have given up for good! Just say to her that if she wants to die and lose chances of being a healthy person again, just keep on smoking!

  7. Though a legal drug Nicotine can and is very addictive that rivals even heroin in the inability to successfully break free of it's bonds. Like any addiction the most important thing is the desire to quit. When confronted with facts many people throw a defensive attitude about their addiction. Mom knows the risks associated with smoking but she may be afraid of the withdraws that can occur. Perhaps you can tell her you love her and when she's ready to quit you will be there to help her in whatever way you can. Remember Nicotine is a drug and a very powerful and addictive one.

    Good Luck
