my mother's cat has been de-clawed for as long as i can remember... why does she still go to the wall and try to sharpen her nonexistent nails?

  1. Cats aren't usually aware they no longer have the muscles that were once attached to the claws. They also do it to stretch.

  2. It's a normal inbred instinct for them to do this, even tho they no longer have claws.

  3. All my cats are de-clawed and they still do that. A cat doesn't know it doesn't have claws. It will still try to shapen them.

  4. INSTINCT..........

  5. It's just her instinct. In the wild, cats have to keep their claws sharp to catch food. My cat Rascal used to be a wild cat but now he's a house cat.
