Why does my motorcycle seem to choke and sputter a little bit when i get up to 4,000 rpm?

I'm gonna try to use carb/ fuel injector cleaner first, they said the carborator was already cleaned, the people i bought it from

  1. Three things to check.

    Air filter - or any other kind of blockage.

    Fuel filter - and like you said, try some carb cleaner.  God only knows what the people you bought it from actually did though.

    Spark plug - inspect the plug, and make sure it is adjusted correctly.  Inspect the cable, and the coil/magneto (whatever your bike has).

    If you know someone with a set of gauges, you can run a compression check.

    Depending on the displacement of the bike, it might want higher octane gas - or you can mix your own with some octane boost.


  2. If they screwed around with the carbs, there is a very good chance THAT is your problem right there!  Otherwise, I'd blame it on the  spark, either plugs or spark plug wires.
