Question:

Why does my mower shut down when I am driving on steep hills?? Safety seat switch is not the problem.

  1. My guess is you are getting no gas to the carburetor because of the steep grade.  Try tackling the grade from the opposite direction and see if that helps.


  2. Where's your fuel feed?

    If you tilt the mower enough, you might not get gas.

  3. My guess is the low oil level switch... when you are on a steep angle it senses there is no oil ....kills the engine

  4. There is a safety switch which will stall the engine incase of a rollover .

  5. Read your owners manual, it probably has a tilt switch for safety to avoid rollovers and flipping.  

  6. Perhaps the gas in the tank or float chamber sloshes to one side out of reach of the feed. For starters, try mowing steep terrain only with a full tank. If it's a float chamber issue, see your John Deere dealer.

  7. Either there are too much grass sticking to the blade and it can't move and stall or when you move down hill, the gas move away from the hose and it can't sucks the gas and the engine shut down.
