Why does my mum hate it when i sing?

Question

Sometimes my mum sings randomly, but whenever I do she always tells me top stop it because I have a terrible singing voice. The thing is I don't think I've got a terrible voice and others tell me I have a nice voice, including my dad. I'm no Christina Aguielra but I'm not that bad!! Plus, I think my mother is much worse but I don't always say it to her like she does to me!! I love to sing and she really puts me down. Does anybody know why??

I don't know why a mother would put down their child for anything.  Maybe she is just trying to discourage you from wanting to perform in public or go after a career in the business.  That is the hardest life a child could start with.  If you really enjoy singing continue to do so.  Sing when your father is around to here or just don't sing around your mom very loud.

I can't believe the things I read on this site! I never thought that Mothers could be self-centered when it comes to their babies. Anyway your "Mom" sounds like she's jealous (which I can't understand how a Mother can be jealous of her own child that SHE made!!) but I guess some people are just that way. You go on singing honey, and don't let anyone tell you not to. Out of respect for your Mom try to refrain from doing it in front of her, we don't want you to get in trouble ok.

that's kind of interesting and..weird i guess. moms usually compliment their kids a lot, yours is otherwise. me, i usually hate it when my brother sings because he has a terrible voice. you, it might be that your mom just kind of feel frutrated that you sing better than her.haha,i dont know. or maybe you're singing during the wrong time.

or maybe it's the songs you sing that she does not like. maybe she finds it unpleasant (i mean the song) or maybe it reminds her of her past. try singing songs during her old days.:D

Maybe your mom thinks she sings really well?

Or maybe you dont sing well and people are trying to be nice?

Your mother is just a selfish control freak. It has nothing to do with how good or bad you sing. Some people have to control their entire environment or they feel out of control. The problem is it affects everyone around them. Im betting she does this in other ways also besides the singing. My advice to you is if you want to sing just sing and let it be her problem.

Ask her to pay for your voice lessons. She sounds self absorbed to me. Ignore her and sing on!
