my norton internet security used to scan up to 6200 items, but just today, once I ask it to do a quick scan(like I always do), it only scans 3, what happened?

  1. Sometimes a scan might freeze, but I'm not sure why. Simply cancel the scan and try again. If it still doesn't work, restart and try again. That should fix the problem.

Oh, and I don't care what the reviewers say, Norton is a piece of ****, quite frankly. If Norton was a person it wouldn't be able to find a virus if the virus weighed 1000 pounds and was sitting on top of it. It eats up CPU like no program ever has before, and has horrible detection rates. I had it for about a year, and was that a bad year for my computer. My computer was being ugly slow and Norton could not find a single problem. I finally installed another antivirus (that was actually a free program) and it instantly found 180 problems Norton couldn't. Seriously. I think you're better off without Norton than with. ZoneAlarm is the best antivirus. The best free one is either Avast! or AVG.

  2. I noticed that today as well..looking at history it did it yesterday but i didnt notice then. My quick scan scans up to 9 files instead of the usual 1000some. No cookies detected as it usually does detect them. The full scan scanned all files however it did not list any cookies as it usually would. I did have a software update yesterday. One item listed at first and when i tried to install, i got an error..tried again and 2 items were listed. So those installed. Hopefully next update will fix it.

I would like to add that it seems we all got this at the same time, but researching on the internet, could it be from installing sp3? I installed that on Sunday, I  didnt do a scan, scanned Monday, didnt notice the problem but it was there...then Tuesday i noticed the problem. Did you just install sp3 as well?

I found this link to Norton Forum referencing this actual question.

I guess they expect us to upgrade.

  3. You might have changed the area to scan?

  4. Same Problem

My full scan doesn't even get like attention for tracking cookies.

  5. Install Avira Antivirus Premium Edition. It Is Not Heavy At all And Is Very Simple And Easy to Use.
