My 5 month old beagle mix has been barking at my 3 year old min pin every time he comes near me. He just started doing this. We did just go out of town fro 3 days and left the puppy with my mom so maybe that's why he acting like that. He won't come to me be unless another dog does 1st and then he try to attack them.

  1. He's getting possesive. You should try and stop this behaviour now before it becomes much more serious, such as biting.

Treat them excatly the same, but if you are giving them treats give the Min Pin the treat first and straight away give the Beagle one. Stroke them both at the same time, feed at the same time, etc...

    Good luck!

  2. It doesn't sound like he's being protective or jealous.  If he was barking when other dogs or people approach, thats protective.  It sounds like he is showing a dominant, possessive behavior.  To him, you are a source of affection and rewards, and he is trying to control that source.  Its this mindset, not the behavior per se, that you need to address.  You need to be assertive and put him in an obedient state  when you interact with other dogs.  You can treat them equally if they are both being calm and submissive, but you should not treat them equally if one is misbehaving in this way.  Make them sit or otherwise assert your own dominance in these situations, and then treat them equally when they behave.

There may be other, seemingly totally unrelated behaviors that are also giving rise to this mindset.  If you let him have free reign over the furniture, like your couch and bed, start training him that he can only jump up if you invite him.  Make him sit quietly at an open door until you pass through.  At 5 months, your puppy should be mature enough to start learning to be this obedient.

  3. aww hes jealous! yoou gotta just talk to him a nice loving voice and treat them all the same> im sure you do anyway but yea hes jealous! :)  > cute

  4. he is probably very protective of you.  He is like a guard dog.  He wants to protect you from other dogs that might hert you.  Also he might be jealous of other dogs.

  5. Maybe he is jealous.

He just started doing it because maybe you left him for the first time, he's just looking out for you, but is afraid to get attached again, because dogs do get depressed.
