Question:

Why does my puppy hide and try to bury her treats?

I have a 7 month old Terrier mix. She was brought here as a stray from Puerto Rico. It is so funny to watch her attempt to hide her treats. Sometimes she rubs her nose against the rug in an attept even though there is nothing else on the rug to cover it. Then a few days later it's like a lightbulb goes off in her head and she runs into the other room to recover a treat that she has burried. I love to watch her do it but I am always wondering what is going on in that little head of hers :)

  1. Just instinct. Terriers do stuff like that a lot. Funny dogs.

  2. It's a dog thing, hide your food so no other animal can get it and then they will have it for when they need it.

Of course, maybe she thinks you have a cravin for her treats and is hidin em from you.....:-)

  3. Hee hee, she is just bonkers.  I had a terrier mix growing up and although she never did this particular thing she did lots of other weird stuff.  Terriers are just sort of nuts in general.  ^_-

  4. Its instinct. She is hoarding her food because she probably isn't used to having food all the time since she was a stray, and she is rationing it.

  5. It's instinct, but it's pretty funny.  My pom is over a year old and still does this.  He digs and uses his nose to try and "cover" his treat.  The funniest thing is watching him dig into his doggy bed pillow like he's on a mission.  haha. SO cute! :o)

  6. Its natural instinct. All dogs are like that!

  7. instinct my puppy also likes to take her treats and hide cus she thinks we are gonna take em' from her
