  1. are you sure the bail is flipping back to its closed position when you reel? maybe the drag is set way too loose? if the drag is set loose the spool will just spin. the spool needs to be tight enough so that it doesn't spin but loose enough so that when you catch a fish that the fish can pull line out so it dont break your line or pull out of the fishes mouth. take your setup to a fishing store and have someone explain to you how to use your junk. whiskey tango foxtrot

  2. try tighting the bail on it.

  3. When this happens it is usually a result of the drag set too loose to reel in the line. Just adjust the star next to the handle- turn it to the right until you have power to reel it in , Also sometimes the line is not picked up by the reel- just lift up on the end of the rod to take the slack out of the line and if that was the problem, it will start working. If neither of these two things is it, the pick up stud inside the reel is not engaging or is broken. It more then likely will be one of the first two things I mentioned.

  4. spincast?  like zebco 202 or 404 or 33?  try reeling it in and while you are reeling it in pull on the line as it comes out of the top of the reel - it should catch and start reeling it in.

    spinning has a bail

    - spincast has a plastic piece over it and the assembly underneath that drops down and moves the line to reel it in... you might try cleaning it and lubricating it after you remove the cover so you can see the line. Make sure the nut on top of the piece that moves when you turn the handle is tightened....

  5. Does the reel have a single pick up and if it does pt needs to be cleaned and reset or replaced.
