My 2 year old staff, boy, has a lovely temperment with girl dogs of any breed. But he wags his tail at other boy dogs but when gets up close starts growling and being aggresive. The other day he went for another staff, which was a boy and i had to throw water over them to get them off each other. why does he do this?

  1. Your "staff" hasn't been properly socialized.  You need to walk him and make sure he knows YOU are in control, not him.  Make him walk in the submissive position, not in front of you but next to you and never let his head get more than 6" in front of your left leg before you rein him in.  You can reward him with a treat when he walks this way.  When he's comfortable with this position, start walking with another person and their male dog.  Keep them on opposite sides of both of you at first and then move one in between you and the other man so they're only separated by a person.  This is the only way he is going to get over his aggressive behavior as long as it's coupled with neutering him.  There is no reason a 2-year-old male dog shouldn't be neutered.

  2. Please consult a behaviorist. In my opinion, they are making friends.

  3. There are many reasons that your dog may be doing this.  I recommend that you contact a dog behaviorist and get to the bottom of it.  This could be a serious problems just waiting for the right circumstances to unleash.  Please control your dog, so it doesn't have the opportunity to go for another dog until you have a better idea about his behaviour and what sets him off.

  4. unfortunately with the bull terrier breeds they are lovely with girls but with males they are very Territorial, he is just being dominant and telling other males to keep away from you as his owner, you can take with you a small plastic bottle with stones in and when he starts growling give the bottle a shake and say no in a firm voice get him to sit down beside you and wait for the other dog to pass, it is good he wants to protect you but you need to stop this behaviour when you are out, unfortunately males will fight which is why breeders say you can't keep two males together, it is just the way these dog are but with training they can be taught not to do it  some times neutering can stop the agressive behaviour with other male dogs best of luck honey

  5. Is he neutered? If he isn't you might want to consider having him altered, some unneutered males are aggressive around other males.

  6. He's a dominant type and trying to be a leader. All he needs is a good professional trainer.Good luck!

  7. Because you're not being the pack leader.
