Okay so my bf just bought these speakers :

and they are hooked up to this receiver:

It sounds great. but it keeps making this loud popping noise and its really annoying. Do you know how to fix it?

  1. did you blow them, pop or crakle, the crackle/pop is probably the power/signal going on and off when you switch, my subs crackle when I plug them in.

  2. There are few things you could try:

    1) Set the crossover of the sub to 80Hz. Although it may be set higher because those speakers are fairly small. You should turn the volume down on the sub (don't have it cranked) a bit and run the auto EQ on your receiver to set the right levels. The sub might just be too loud.

    2) Adjust the settings on the cable/sat receiver for "volume control" this may equalize the volume between channels and stop the sub from picking up a higher signal when the channel is switched. It might also add a some noise cancellation when the channels are switched.

    3) Change the cable type you are using. If you are using HDMI from the cable/sat box, try using component and optical audio. It may have something to do with the HDMI switching in the receiver. There won't be any difference in quality from cable/sat because 1080i and Dolby Digital is the max for that.

  3. Lower the cross-over-frequency using the dial on the back of the sub.
