Why does my van shut off when i put it in reverse?

Question

dodge ram B250 van, v6 250,000 miles

regular tune ups and maintenance done

brand new muffler and cat were put on 6 months ago

driving forward is fine. in the morning the car goes in reverse fine. when i drive it for awhile and then put it in reverse it shuts off

my mechanic says its an engine problem, he thinks it might be a sensor but not sure.

what is the problem?

it actually might be your tansmission because that has to do with gears so take it to a car place and mabey get a diagnostics test ran on it.
