Why does my vans radio shut off when i turn on the headlights?

I installed my radio myself, and for the past three or four months it has been working fine, but tonight i started the car, my radio was working fine, then i turned on the headlights, and the radio shut off. When i turned the headlights off the radio came back on. Can anyone help me with this?

Maybe the wires are rubbing.  When you open the electrical current tp the lights it maybe affecting the wiring for the radio.  Check your wiring.  I know my idea might be a little far fetched but I would definately recommend checking the wiring.
