Why does my well casing have to be above ground? Can it be cut off at ground level?

  1. Health dept rules require it to be above grade. This way if it's uncapped, pollution can't run in and contaminate ground water. It also makes it easy to service if needed.


  2. The main purpose is for the health safety.

    Having it extend above the ground prevents contaminated surface water runoff from entering the well.

    I wouldn't recommend cutting it to grade level.
