I have a wireless networking card, and windows vista. When I am downloading from multiple sources, such as limewire or bitcomet, it downloads for about 5-10 minutes, then my wireless connection says it is "local only" and I cant reconnect to my wireless network until I reset my computer. I have no idea what the problem is, and I dont even know what to search for on the internet. Its a hawking wireless wrt54g USB card, and a linksys MR814 V2 router. Thanks in advance for any advice!

  1. Download bandwidth is not great on wireless anyway, so a hardline is your best bet.  However, given your problem, it sounds like a driver problem on your wireless card.  If you have the original install CD's, perform the following.  Uninstall the software that came with the wireless card.  Reboot, then go to device manager, and just load the device driver from the cd, and let Windows manage your wireless connection.  This should alleviate your problems.

  2. It could be any number of things. When did this problem start? Are there other computers on the same network? If so, are they having problems too? You might want to try updating the card's driver. When the disconnect occurs, is it always after a set 5-10 minutes, and does it happen regardless of bandwidth usage (how much or little you're downloading/uploading)? Have you made any setting changes to bitcomet? Sometimes setting certain values too high can result in this type of thing happening. Could be the router has a problem. Start a process of elimination. Try to find out if it's only your computer or any using the same network.

For starters, update the card's driver. Then double check your torrent client's settings, making sure nothing is too extreme. Try seeing if the same thing happens to another PC besides yours. Sorry I can't give you anything specific; the best thing is to eliminate possible culprits and narrow down the problem. Good luck.
