Why does my Acer lap top's wireless internet access keep dropping? I just changed routers from a Belkin to a Netgear and it's still dropping.

  1. it doesn't matter, the main thing as long as your still connected, don't think its going to slow your internet connection speed down because it wont, the signal strength means the connection between your computers wireless card and the router

  2. maybe your adapter is bad or something is interfering with the signal, like if you turn on the microwave the signal wiil drop for sure

  3. Internal wireless adapters are notorious for dropping signal. There's a few reasons.

Firstly, they are "value" adapters, made at the lowest possible price just to sell the laptop easier.

Secondly, a lot of them are susceptible to heat. This holds true for laptops because the wireless cards are enclosed on the motherboard and do not have their own fan like the CPU does. You may try perhaps raising your laptop off of the desk by placing little pegs underneath to give more airflow below the laptop where most of the heat happens.

Your best solution to this problem is going out and buying a "real" wireless card from a real manufacturer like Linksys, D-Link, or any other of the major brands.
