Question:

Why does my wireless say it's connected but refuse to load pages?

I've tried everything! It says that I'm connected to the network (sometimes the connection is "excellent", sometimes it's just "very good"), but my computer still refuses to load web sites or connect to AIM from wireless.

This has happened both using a hotel's wireless and my university's wireless... I've taken it to the ITS help center here, but they can't figure out what the problem is. They know that the settings seem right for the wireless network, and I've had no problems connecting in past years.

I've downloaded and installed new drivers for my computer (a Dell Inspiron 600m, running Windows XP), checked my security log-on information, AND disabled my firewalls (just for a moment, to see if that was the problem).

HELP!

  1. The computer's wireless radio is connected to the router's wireless radio, but the computer isn't connected to the router.

Ask IT to make sure that you're set up for a dynamic IP on your laptop.  (DHCP client service must be running.)  If tey need a static IP at the office, they can install NetSetMan on your laptop and set it up - then you just select "home" or "office" - hotels and hotspots are "home").  It's $12 for business use, but worth it.

  2. ur comp is connected to the wireless signal that the wireless signal emitting router isn't connected to a internet port.try to make sure ur connected to the wireless router which is connected to internet.

  3. Go into Command Prompt and type in " ping www.google.com"

If it says request timed out or something similar.. then you have a connection problem lol

If it goes through.. then you really do have internet connection.. run a spyware and antivirus scan to see if a virus is preventing you from connecting ..
