Why does nature produce hybrid foods?

For instance an orange is a hybrid in nature and a lemon is a hybrid, and I was wondering why does nature produce hybrids? And how come we just can't stick with the original plant?

  1. it's just nature

  2. its just the nature of how plants reproduce that results in hybridization every once in a while, and "how come we just can't stick with original plant" is because the hybrid is better.(if it wasn't it wouldn't have survived for vary long)

  3. <<For instance an orange is a hybrid in nature and a lemon is a hybrid...>>

Nature didn't independently hybridize the domestic orange tree.  Human fruit cultivation did that.  Domestic lemons also came around the same way.  Nature's participation involved coming up with humans.

<<And how come we just can't stick with the original plant?>>

We're biased towards trying to obtain qualities we approve of; for example, larger yields.

  4. natural selection. whatever is strongest will surivive and the weakest die, so that means weak plants are weeded out leaving the strong to contest and become stronger

  5. Humans are in control of the fruit and veg you buy in the supermarket.

Plants are crossbred and genetically modified to get new varieties. There is a limit to how distantly plants can be related before they cant crossbreed. Most people believe that its "survival of the fittest". So the seedless varities in the supermarket wouldnt actually survive in nature because they wouldnt be able to reproduce without humans to grow them from cuttings.

•Extremely rare interfamilial hybrids have been known to occur.

•Hybrids between different genera are sometimes known as intergeneric hybrids.

•Hybrids between different sub-species within a species are known as intra-specific hybrids.

•Hybrids between different species within the same genus are sometimes known as interspecific hybrids or crosses.
