  1. You're not a schizo.

  2. People do not want to believe or they know but wont admit. If you are truly schizophrenic than everyone knows. Those things you can not hide.

Best is to see a doctor before you harm your self or someone else.

  3. Most people think Schizophrenia means you have a split personality, but it doesn't.  The split personality is called Multiple personality. It is completely different.  Educate them.

  4. cause ur a liar

  5. Schizophrenia manifests itself in many different ways and the severity of the illness is determined by many different social, health, environmental and indeed personal factors.  The symptoms can exacerbate or remiss at any time depending on a given situation.  The illness can be mild or very severe and can subsequently fuctuate throughout ones life or remain relatively stable.

The stereotypical picture of symptomatic schizophrenia is both positive and negative symtoms.  Positive symptoms include: delusional beliefs, paranoid ideation, both visual and audio hallucinations, ideas of reference and many more.  Negative symptoms include: poor personal hygiene, social withdrawal, lack of self-worth and confidence, and the ability to form relationships.

Therefore, some people may only exhibit one or two symptoms either negative or positive.  However, for the majority of people formally diagnosed with schizophrenia they exhibit numerous symptoms and require medical management through anti-psychotic drugs and on-going support and therapy.

It takes a considerable amount of time for someone to be diagnosed with schizophrenia.  Mainly, because the diagnosis is difficult to reach.  The patient would need to show more that one episode of symptomatic behaviour and that these symptoms are effecting their life and impede on their activities of daily living.

Many people with schizophrenia are able to lead a full and indeed normal life with the help of medication and therapy.  However, the otherside of the coin is that many people have severe psychosis and are troubled with continued symptoms throughout strugging to find coping machanisms.

The key is to find appropriate medical management and social support in dealing with each day on an individual basis.  Furthermore, it is important to understand your illness and develop insight into how you deal with your illness.

It doesn't really matter if people don't believe you and maybe this is a good thing, in that the severity of your schizophrenia is mild.

  6. how do you know you have it,has a doctor told you?

  7. Well people would believe you if you have actually been dignosied with it.

and that you have symptoms of someone that has schizophrenia, but if you have and its been known by doctors or any mental health professional then you really shouldnt give a dam what others think is true or not.

  8. Ashley I know.

  9. have you been diagnosed?

  10. how do you know?  what are your symptoms?

  11. Does it make a big difference to you whether people believe you or not?

If you are, then take the medication and get on with it! If not who cares?!

  12. I am in two minds as to if I should answer this

  13. if you have schizophrenia, as confirmed by a psychiatrist, then people will believe you.

if you don;t have confirmation from an expert, then people might think your self-diagnosis is wrong.

  14. Are your symptoms well controlled with drugs or psychiatric treatment? If yes, you probably appear quite normal to strangers. Also, not all schizophrenics are raving nutters out to slash anyone they meet with a butcher's knife but unfortunately, that's what too many people think all schizophrenics are like. Like so many psychiatric conditions there are many variants and the majority of people don't understand.

I hope your needs are being met and I hope you can get people to understand.

  15. Do you have a degree in psychiatry?

  16. I believe the both of you.

  17. Have you been formally diagnosed as being schizophrenic?

If not, it's possible that you're not. You can't self diagnose as so many symptoms are common to different illnesses. Maybe people don't believe you because it hasn't been confirmed, so go to your GP and discuss the possibilities.

I'm schizophrenic and I have had the same problem, but it's best to just ignore people if you have a formal diagnosis and know you have it.

  18. do you have medical confirmation? or is it something that you have decided for yourself?

who is it that doesnt believe you? Real people or the people in your head? :-)

  19. if you have been diagnosed professionally then don't worry about them but if you have done a self diagnosis then why wonder why people don't believe you

  20. You need to give more details of you condition. Many people think I am well and I have Bi-polar disorder but because they cant see the symptoms unless i am on a manic high, they just think I am normal, yet every day is a struggle.

  21. so what? welcome to the club ..

  22. a doctor is the first one to speak with, and then a referral to a psychiatric hospital, if you really are suffering from schizophrenia they will determine what medication you will need. I have a relative who has suffered for 40 years and he is never going to be any better than he is now, which is incredibly sad. Get the help you need. But you cannot self diagnose it doesn't  work that way

  23. Do the voices believe you? Sorry that's a little insensitive, maybe they just think your joking, see a doctor cos they have to believe you. How old are you? I have met a few people who said they have schizophrenia just for attention.
