  1. Because no one would watch all of that national geographic travel propaganda for the host country more often than that.

  2. Makes it an even bigger event

  3. Every 2 years alternates between Winter and Summer.

So Summer is every 4... as is winter.

Edit: Sorry, i read the question wrong.

  4. It makes it more of a big deal, therfore, more people will want to watch.

Oh and  the dude that said that both winter and summer Olympics are every 4 years is wrong.Summer is every 4 years, but Winter is every 2.

  5. Paulllll C is right. The olympics actually happen every 2 years. The ones on now are the summer olympics. The next olympics (the winter version) will be at Vancouver in 2010.

Then it changes back to being summer olympics again (London in 2012).

  6. To the person who said winter Olympics are every 2 years...No. The Olympics alternate every two years so that, for example, we are having the summer Olympics now. The winter Olympics will be held in 2010 in Vancouver. The Next Summer Olympics will be in 2012 in London. The four year rotation began based on the ancient Greek calendar and their decision to hold the Olympics in a leap year. Up until 1992 the winter and summer olympics were held in the same year, but the IOC decided to split them to reduce the strain on host countries
