  1. It's a position called libero.

They only play back row, and they don't count as a substitution against the team. And that's why the player is wearing a contrasting color jersey, so she/he can stand out for officials. [So that the refs can see which one it is]

This person is the best passer/digger and generally the most skilled defensive player on the team. It is usually the shortest player because usually taller people are hitters, and he/she doesn't have to go as far to get. Plus, the player can get down to the floor more easily to dig out the ball and give the team an opportunity to win the point..

The libero can also serve but only for one person per set.

  2. That player used to much starch on the home jersey so she or he had to use the away jersey.

  3. cause she cant spike cause shes short.

  5. It's usually the team captain or the MVP depending on which volleyball your watching.

  6. He or she is the libero, or defensive specialist.  She cannot attack (spike or hit) the ball.

  7. He or she is usually the setter and it is easy for others to view/identify while passing the ball.

  8. They are called a Libero they are a defensive specialist who is not allowed to block at the net.
