Why does online connection to from 3.5MB/sec to 69K/sec while im downloading a game?

I have Verizon DSL and it should stay at 3.5MB/sec but it goes down steadily until its around 50K/sec. I have tried turning off background tasks and a bunch of other things but it wont stay fast

  1. You are not going to download a file at 3.5mb a second. Download speeds rely on your connection and the speed at which the server you are downloading from can upload the file. You will be lucky to get 100kbps on your connection using a file sharing app and may get 200k from an extremely fast web server.


  2. yikes, we download at 55mbps.

    lots of movies and british television.

    We have cavalier, a regional telephone company with all fiber optics.

    Do you have any local phone companies with dsl?

  3. several things can cause this

    1) the computer you are trying to get the file from may have a limiter on it 2) your isp can and does put a limiter on the connection 3) viruses on your pc can mess with your downloads as they usually over throttle your downloads so they can access your data faster at your downloads going slow 4)you've hit your dsls limited on what you can download

  4. Your download speed is relative to the speed the remote server can support.
