Why does only 2 of my surround speakers work?

l have a surround sound system but only 2 of the five speakers works, and thats the left and right ones, they all work with a dvd, but not when l watch tv though my sky box, then only the two work.

please help?

  1. it could be a couple of things. is your sky box hooked up to your receiver using red and white stereo cables, or are you using a digital coax or optical cable? some receivers have dolby pro logic on it, in which case it will take your stereo signal and play it through all 5 speakers, but you have to look and see if it has it. switch it from stereo to pro logic and you are good to go.


  2. TV does not have surround sound like dvd and Blu-ray, so therefore cannot play stereo tv in 5.1 surround sound.

  3. Dvd is played back in dolby so all your speakers pick the sound up, however, sky is only in stereo standard. don't worry, i have a sony theatre sound system and my tv broadcast is only in stereo.

  4. Depending on the type of system you have, you have to tell it what to do!

    Go to the 'on screen menu' and set the input to 5.1, that should solve the problem.
