My car is a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and this has puzzled me for some time. The radio is obviously not fried because one station, AM 990, to be precise, does come in. All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  1. The antenna is unplugged, or it is broken.

  2. You have a crappy radio.

  3. Sounds like the Antenna Got Unplugged

  4. bc you need a new radio....

  5. maybe it has somethign to do with the wiring and its not accepting the other frequency or interrupting it.. or could be a fuse? i dont know about cars but thats just my guess. But if ONLY ONE station is coming in it could be related to your location? If so then d**n.. that am station must have the lowest wave around LOL

  6. maybe try getting an xm radio or something...onlt=y thing i can think of...and i can totally understand if you dont want to spend money! good Luck :)

  7. The ability to receive a "station" or signal in our car is due to the antenna receiving the waves and processing that signal.  AM stations use a type of modulation or wave which in some cases can be easily picked up by your radio with nothing more than power applied, however, FM stations rely on a different type of modulation requiring in most cases an antenna to pick up this type of signal.....Long story short, your car antenna is disoconnected.  Check the connection at the point the wiring connects to the base of the antenna on the car.  If the wiring connection looks good, you'll need to pull out your head unit or take if to the local Jeep dealer and have them pull out your head unit and plug your antenna wire back in.  Should take less than 5 minutes to fix.  Hope this helps.
