Our baby is just over 25hrs old, but she does not want to feed. She has been bringing up a lot of fluid all day, the nurses says she drunk to much anatomical fluid. When we put her on the breast or try her with a bottle, she will not suck. Can any one give us some tips on getting her started....

  1. Get medical advice now. Go to the hospital if you cannot see a doctor...newborns get dehydrated very fast and that is very dangerous....please go and good luck.

  2. This may just be a case of her trying to get into the latching on or the sucking...When my daughter was born she had a bottle after 2 weeks of breastfeeding, she didnt know what to do with the bottle. I kept rubbing the teat on her top lip and she opened her mouth to suck just keep trying with breast or bottle rubbing the nipple/teat on her top lip she will get the hang of it, all you need is patience...She will get there!! hehe!!

    Good Luck!!

  3. has she fed at all since birth?

honestly, newborns aren't really interested in feedings... it's not their favorite thing to do... both my daughters were that way, and i'd keep asking the nurses but they reassured me it was normal. they usually start showing more interest when they are a few days old.

now, if she hasn't fed at all since birth, that's another story and you should definitely consult a doctor if that's the case.

newborns can lose upto 10% of their birth weight in the first three days. just watch her weight. if she looses more than 10%, or if she doesn't start regaining on day 4 or 5, then you should definitely consult her ped.

good luck and enjoy your bundle of joy.

    and congrats :)
