The other day I read abt water logging and read that excess watering plants removes the air trapped in the soil n hence plants may die. But in the case of paddy it always requires standing water. why? n how do u justify it with water logging?

  1. It needs to stand in waterlogged conditions to enhance the growth of the bacteria which help for the good growth of the rice plants.

  2. ........the above answer is wrong         the paddy roots are an exception because "THEY ARE CAPABLE OF UNDERGOING ANAEROBIC RESPIRATION" so they wont die under oxygen deficient  conditions......and paddy roots require water logged conditions as the paddy seedling have high transpiration ratio that is for a given mass of tissue(or food) produced they need to lose large amount of water(cacti and xerophytes have low transpiration ratio)...in the absence of water logging rice seedlings will get wilted
