Why does people look down on poor people?

How do you determine poor. A very poor person may think someone who is not as poor as them, may be rich person in terms of quality of life.

I've been poor and I'm not anymore, but I don't look down on poor people. As they say, "there go I except for the grace of God".

Poor people don't need help, they need educating. They must learn to help themselves.

Mintee's answer - God did not give you your wealth. God does not give wealth. Working and opportunity gives you wealth. That was a pathetic statement.

Anyway, I think that richer people feel that poor people are poor because they are lazy and don't want good jobs. I think that they think that they are dirty and scummy and alcoholics and whatever- obviously untrue. They go with how easy their life was and how easily they made it (or hard, whatever)- and they think "well that person could have done the same thing". They don't factor in that everyone's lives are different and not everyone can create the same opportunity.

Obviously that misconception needs to change and people need to be more compassionate and less selfish and judgemental!. It's quite sad, really.

I think its got something to do with guilt,even if its hidden.No one is superior because they are wealthy and those who have much should give much in whatever way they can.This brings us together.

agree or not this is a materialistic world. i was a pandesal and balot vendor when i was kid. i strive on because i understand that money is respect. now i am well off and thrice yearly i travel abroad for pleasure. i got properties and fat savings in the banks and with vehicles in the garage!!! poverty can be licked...HOW? IT IS YOUR BALLGAME!

There are SEVERAL different answers for this question. Why do people hate blah blah? Everyone has there own opinion and reasons for how they feel. Some look down on poor people because they used to be poor themselves and hate the memories, or they fear the possibility they may be poor one day, or they think they're lazy, or hating on poor people makes them feel inferior because they have more. There are SO many reasons people could have. Some could possibly not even like looking at poor people cause' they don't want to feel sorry for them.

they forget that in this world.. wealth is fleeting.. God can give you wealth and take it away.. Poor people might not have been poor all their life.. they might have been the CEO of a large corporation, had the 2 cars, the large mantion home with a pool out back, but circumstances hit, company went under and they got poor...

We shouldnt think of poor as lower class citizens.. sometimes life dealt them wrongly.. Maybe our 1 dollar donated will help them onto a better life and they will be able to pull themselves out and get a decent living afterwards.
