Why does plucking/waxing your eyebrows cause your eyes to water and your nose to run?

Does it have something to do with the sinuses?

  1. Most likely got something to do with sensitivity and the nerves.


  2. yes plucking makes my eyes water and nose run. not totally sure why though.

  3. When you're plucking your own eyebrows, you're concentrating on it and trying not to blink. This causes tears to get accumulated in your eyes and when you have tears, your nose starts running a bit. It's got nothing to do with sinuses.

  4. Don't know much about how the body acts and reacts, but I'd say that the pain you experience when doing that causes those parts of your body to heat up. The tearing and runny nose may be a way for the body to cool down maybe?

  5. Plucking a hair from your eyebrow stimulates a nearby branch of the nerve that services your nasal passages. And even though these impulses don't originate in your nose, the eyebrow plucking sensitises the entire nerve, enabling sufficient impulses to reach the sneezing centre, making you sternutate (that's sneeze, in medico-speak).
