Bless them.

But i had to call on behalf of someone who didn't know how to talk right to the case worker. And they said anyone can call on behalf of somebody as long as they have the persons loved ones info..

so chic is in army, her grandpa had a heart attack and is not going to make it. I'm a friend and I ended up giving them all my info, then the doctors info and number. They called to doctor and asker for all their info, address and all, and verified the patient.

So y is it necessary for my info to be given? I feel like I'm in trouble or something ;P

  1. To prevent fraud. Katrina cost the Red Cross millions in false claims. They are just being careful.

  2. What organization doesn't need to know your life history Nowadays?

They need to know as much as possible about you for a few reasons.

    1. They need to make sure that you qualify for their assistance and that you are truly in need of their services.

    2. They do this to get to know you in order to help serve you better.

    3. Information gathering is for Red Cross Statistics that they report to the government so they can apply for grants and monetary aid.

    4. Information to protect them from lawsuits. Unfortunately in this lawsuit happy society, people will try to find any reason to sue someone, even if they are trying to help you. Information on you and your situation helps to cover the Red Cross in case you are some type of scam artist looking for an easy mark and a free meal ticket.

  3. Yes it's all necessary so they can pass the word accurately down to the military member. All the Dr. info is needed to verify the truth of the situation. Don't feel weird about it, instead feel good about being able to help a military member get status on a loved one. It's very much appreciated that they know now versus later when it's too late and he's passed on.

  4. Bless your heart.  You sound like an honest person.  Unfortunately, not everyone is as honest.  When you are honest,  you don't think dishonestly.

When I was stationed at Langley, there was a sailor, I think her name was Liberty Bell (I swear I'm not making that up!)  She faked a kidnaping so she wouldn't have to go work.

How easy it would be for someone with that mindset to contact Red Cross and fake a family emergency.  That's why they ask so many questions and double check the information.

  5. It's really necessary because before the Red Cross sends out an emergency message like that, they take the steps to ensure the information is genuine.

You would not believe all the X's that would jump at the chance to mess with someones mind by giving a false death message on deployment.

The military will go to great lengths to grant someone emergency leave in that type of situation. It's normally only for immediate family members, but exceptions are made on a case by case basis.

Thanks for helping out and no your not in any trouble.

  6. My sister in Uk has just done that it is to ensure you are genuine and not a terrorist (been tried) and to ensure that they can send you to places where you wont cause an international incident Like Sending An Israeli to Palestine

    security honesty integrity etc

  7. Probably just to verify their source & to have a contact number in case they can't reach the doctor, etc.  The Red Cross can put some serious things into action with their messages, so best to have lots of info and cross-check their sources...

  8. First of all...

Thanks for Helping your Friend out !!!

Most info is just for verification...

    You did nothing wrong.

An example of what is put in motion when the Red Cross

    contacts the Armed Forces...

If the Grand Fathers health had worsened...

they would have probably been flown home asap...

Seen it happen a couple of times in Vietnam...

  9. To get information about your health history.
