  1. Cause they can make more money

  2. Oh I just hate that "Nouvelle Cuisine" c**p Elric.....give me a good hearty meal any day....

  3. It's not that the portions are that small, it's just that most people are used to the huge portions at places like Applebee's or Friday's. Plus, as another poster said, you are paying for quality. I'd rather have a smaller portion of a delicious meal, than a pound of some chicken dish covered with cheese and bacon and grease topped with a thousand french fries dipped in stupid ranch dressing.

  4. It's to brainwash us into thinking that the ingredients are sooo expensive and warrants the price they are charging.

  5. I agree with you there Elric. I don't want a work of art, I want to fill my stomach lol !!

  6. There is truth to that.  You are just supposed to order more courses.  You should expect dishes that are unique and taste delicious.  Hand made with fresh ingredients.

  7. They're supposed to use the best ingredients and give you an 'eating experience'. Everything is meant to complement the other portions on the plate. You'll notice they often give you some type of sorbet in between meals to clear the palate for the next experience. Presentation is often part of the experience too. So, with all this thoughtfulness, eating out at an expensive restaurant may not fill you up, but it will let you try what the chef considers to be a unique culinary event. If you enjoy that type of thing its fine but have a few Big Macs before dining!

  8. Maybe, just maybe folk who go to these places are using ducktape to hold their flab in and pose...  Too much pud and pop out come the moobs.  LOL

  9. You have to pay for the chef's ego.

  10. You are paying for quality not quantity never mind come round to mine and you can have roast beef and all the trimmings with a tinnie on the side lol

  11. THEY class it as poncy food and so charge you more for it.

  12. It's a trend that started with the Cuisine Nouvelle that made it  fashionable to put small amount of food prettly decorated on plates.

By consequence as people started to be influenced by glossy magazines pictures of models and diet books and wanted to look slim many restaurants, especially the fashionable and expensive ones took advantage of it and started to serve smaller portions so that they could also make more profits.

Nowadays many restaurants are getting ridiculously expensive because rents and rates like houses are getting absurdly expensive consequentially by reducing the amount of food on dishes they make more profits to pay for the huge overheads.

    Basically it's a vicious circle.

  13. It's the law of diminishing returns !

  14. 'Cos its cordon bleu Elric - quality food!!

  15. Ha Ha good one elric...never thought about that !!  I guess as others have said Quality not quanity !

  16. because you get quality not quantity

  17. Its called taking the p... Just like the Emperors new clothes people are taken for a ride willingly.

  18. because the ingredients they use are much more expensive.  You truly get what you pay for.

  19. because its quality not quantity!!
