Why does she CONSTANTLY lie?

my daughter is 8 years old and seems to be becoming a complusive liar. She lies about everything it seems. she lies about brushing her hair and teeth, changing her underwear and socks, doing her homework, putting clothes away, doing things to her brothers...the list goes on. this morning I packed her lunch for school the heard her rustling around in the kitchen. when I went in she said she was packing another snack in her lunch...I said no, and she tried to sneak it in her lunchbox anyway. she also likes to ignore me so I have to yell at her and make her pay attention to me. she ALSO likes to be bossy and sassy to me and her dad and totally doesn't understand when she gets a swat on her butt for it. This has been going on for like a year now.

Because she loves the attention. Ignore her when she lies. Only pay attention to her positive behavior and she'll stop the negative behavior because you're not paying attention to her. It sounds cruel but I think it would work in your case.

Make her prove she isn't lying, every time you ask her questions if the proof isn't obvious.  If you catch her in her lies frequently, she'll stop.  If she doesn't get any "reward" from it, like not having to brush her teeth or do her homework she'll realize there is "no gain" to lying and she'll stop.  Don't let your kids be the boss, ever.

It's called puberty.  Stop yelling at her, she isn't going to listen any better if you yell.  Also you might want to stop hitting her.  Unless you want her to tell a teacher who by law is required to call CPS.

You are giving her lots of attention for the bad stuff. Ignore her more and be disinterested in her and she will get fed up of it.

ha ha sounds like me, ms. sneaky. i am 12, just keep doing what your doing, take away privliges and stuff like that, make her miserable until she learns. i used to be like that, but my parents taught me to stop. its completey normal, and it will slowly dissapear into thin air.
