Why does so much money have to be spent on a convention?

Seriously be it Democrat or Republican what is all the fan fair for?

We live in the age of video and audio technology that can do it all so why spend all that money ?

Tell me about it!  The entire convention is just a love fest of one side's beliefs and a total bash of the other's.  The bulk of viewers that watch it support that particular party, anyway, it isn't like it is swaying undecided voters.  What a waste.
