  1. In this election year it may be red soil and blue soil.


  2. has to do with there parent material. many soils come from different materials. the elements in the soil has a lot to do with it also. iron and aluminum oxides turn the soil an orangey red color. that is bc clay soils have a lot of aluminum and iron oxides in them. the black soils can mean lots of things. the most common and hopefully in your case, they are high in organic matter. humus and other decaying matter makes soil dark and rich like the soils of the Mississippi delta region.
