Why does sugarcane not have braches?

  1. Sugarcane is a monocot. Monocots (typically) do not have lateral buds,(or, "lateral meristems.")


  2. Because it's like bamboo and reed... and if it had brances I think it's no sugarcane anymore...

  3. Corn doesn't have branches either.  Just leaves.  Cane is a type of bamboo.  BTW:  I prefer cane syrup over maple.

  4. sugarcane and bamboo are grasses.... :) botanically speaking.
