Question:

Why does the 08 Honda Civic have worse mpg then the 07?

I was looking at cars online. Will be interested in buying one in the next year or two. And a big favorite of mine is the 2007 Honda Civic. I was of course looking for the best mile per gallon, and I realized that the 07 gets 30/city and 40/highway. While the 08 model gets more like 25/city and 36/highway. Just curious. I want to be able to have three carseats in the back of whatever I buy, will this work with this car?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. epa changed how they measure mpg because it was not accurate in reality the 2007 honda civic gets the same mpg as the 2008

  2. My advice will be to look for something like a Mazda 5. It is fuel efficient with two sliding doors, and excellent styling. You may not get the mileage of a Honda civic but will be more convenient for a family with three small kids. Try it out at your local Mazda dealership.

  3. The EPA changed the way it tests gas mileage for 2008. You'll still get the same gas mileage, but the fuel mileage you see on the window stickers is more real-world gas mileage. Just about all cars for 2008 had a drop in EPA estimates.

    (edit)

No more than two car seats in the back of a car this size.

  4. There is no way you are putting 3 car seats in a compact car.

The EPA changed the mileage calculations because people complained they couldn't get the sticker mileage.  The new method is more accurate because it uses A/C, faster acceleration, and higher highway speeds that more closely resemble real world conditions.  The car itself is exactly the same.

  5. The ONLY way to LEGALLY put 3 car seats in a car is with a SUV with a 3rd row seat. If you do not believe me contact your local government and ask them. You can have a MAXIMUM of 2 seats per row in a vehicle, and preferably none in the front seat.

  6. beacuse they cheap this year

  7. In 2007, they changed the laws on how to read gas mileage.

The old way was not accurate because we have higher speed limits and more roads than we did back then.

So they developed a new way to test the gas mleage which is more accurate.

The 2006, 2007, and 2008 Civic get the exact same gas mileage.

They just changed the readings in late 2007.

So now all cars show lower gas mileage then they did last year.

For example, they said the 2007 Mazda 3 gets 35mpg highway.

And now the 2008 Mazda 3 gets 32mpg highway.

The 2008 gas mileage is more accurate and that is what you should follow for the older models.
