When the ball bounces,depending on how it's hit,the ball pressure,hitting the surface creates a a depression in the balls skin,so the actual contact on the surface is the size of the ball depression which is spherical.If you placed a tennis ball fractionally past the baseline so it is not touching the line,but then pressed down on it a bit the depression of the ball will mean it touches the line

  5. Maybe because if it's spherical then it's easier to tell whether the ball is in or not.

  6. um... are you referring to why do they use a spherical ball instead of a tennis ball? probably just because then they would have to mimic the spin on the video and that would probably mean too much work for them.

    but if you aren't referring to that..... the only other thing that i could think of is that when a ball bounces it's not really a sphere it's more of an oval and that's shown on the ground. i hope this answers your question!
