  1. you need to put some refridgerant in the cooling system. its cheap labor for someone to do it for you or you can do it yourself, just buy a can of refrigerant at walmart and read the instructions on the can and in your cars manual

  2. There are several possible reasons, from simple to complex:

The environmental system in most cars mixes a ratio of hot and cold air to obtain the temperature you set.  Usually, if the dial is set all the way cold, then it will only blow cold air, and if the dial is set all the way hot, it will only blow hot air.  If set in-between, it will blow warm air when the compressor is on, and hot air when the compressor is off.  The compressor will cycle on and off, so it will feel like the A/C is blowing hot air at times.  Set the dial all the way cold to make certain that the compressor is operating properly.

If the dial is all the way cold and warm air is still being blown, then there is a problem with the compressor or possibly evaporator coils.  If hot air is being blown, then there is likely a problem with a valve or flap that controls the cold/hot ratio.

The refrigerant may have leaked out.  Sometimes through a faulty seal or even a hole in a tube.  A mechanic will need to partially fill your system to look for any leaks, and repair them if necessary before filling the system.

The compressor is belt-driven, and has an electric clutch to engage.  There could be a problem with the clutch or the control system.

The compressors themselves rarely break, but they can.
