  1. Because there are more crappy Maple Leaf fans than any other Canadian City

  2. Face it hockey could not live without the leafs

  3. They may be a crappy team but they still rake in the money.

  4. If Toronto had anything other than 'crappy games' they'd show those too.... Isn't CBC  based in Toronto? could be some home town bias there.....

  5. Tornoto= Biggest Market in Canada?

Plus even if they are horrid, the Leafs are the Leafs!

  6. Ratings and ad dollars.  As noted...all about the cash.

  7. Those people who say that the Leafs are what makes the NHL tick are wrong.  There are lots of people across Canada who want to see their team just as much as Leafs fans want to see theirs.

However Toronto is the largest media market in Canada.  The second largest one is Montreal, where the media is split between French and English.  So Leafs games can pull bigger numbers than anyone else based solely on those in the GTA.  (Habs games get their viewers split between CBC and RDS).

Unfortunately a lot of higher ups at CBC (or TSN for that matter) haven't figured out that they could cater to other cities with better regional coverage rather than shoving the Leafs down everyone's throats.

  8. the leafs are the most popular team in canada so everyone would rather watch a leafs game then another team they barely know

  9. No one wants to see anyone but the Leafs any more.

  10. Because they draw in the highest ratings for Leafs games. Plus, companies are willing to pay big money to have their commercial aired during those Leafs games. Money talks.

  11. Population.

Canadian teams are all boring as h**l to watch anyways.

  12. Don Cherry son.  Old boy loves his Leafs.  Gotta hand it to the Leafs fanbase for their unwarranted loyalty, but I would be pissed if I were an Ottawa or Montreal fan that didn't get to see as many of their home team games on CBC.  Question, is CBC the main network throughout the entire country, or just in or around Ontario?  I'm from Detroit so I get CBC, but it does always seem like it's a Leafs game, and if the Leafs aren't on it's usually Sens or Habs.  I guess there are probably some West Coast games on there late that I don't pay attention to but usually I'm awake and near a TV around West Coast game times so I would think I would notice if the Oilers and Canucks were on sucking it up every other night.  Calgary might be worth watching though.
