Question:

Why does the Ebay Buy It Now sometimes stay even with a bid?

I've noticed that sometimes the BIN is still there even when there are bids on the item. Then there are other times where it goes away after the first bid. Can anybody explain?

  1. If the bid is lower then the buy it now, the buy it now stays.

  2. The seller may have more than one of those items in stock.

  3. For a Reserve Price Auction, the Buy It Now option is shown until the reserve is met. If there is no reserve, the Buy It Now generally disappears when the first bid is placed (regardless of how much that bid is). However, what you have probably noticed is that some categories override this rule, as follows:

Parts and Accessories in the eBay Motors site is testing leaving the BIN up even though there are bids. See here for more details:

  4. When an item is listed with a Buy It Now option and there is a Reserve Price on it, the Buy It Now button will stay even if there is a bid on it already. The Buy It Now  will only disappear in this kind of listing if the Reserve Price has been met.
