  1. It runs through poor part of NYC (I used to live there).  It is like the street repairs, many poor part of NYC don't get new roads for decades.

It would make more sense for you to move than to wait.  I've been living in NYC since 1972 (Greenpoint is my first town).  And it was always bad.

    Good luck...

  2. Because it doesn't serve Manhattan at all, it is treated as a "step-child" of the rest of the lines.  The volume of riders at certain times doesn't warrant a full length train.

If you are on the platform you should position yourself in the middle so that you don't have to run.

On Queens Blvd since the E,F, R and V serve Manhattan, they get priority and more trains.

It was built as the first of other lines to serve Brooklyn/Queens but those lines never got past planning stages (there is a "ghost station" - partially built) at Utica Av on the A.  You can see the floor as part of the ceiling of the Utica Av station which has a higher ceiling than most stations).

There is some talk about extending the G to Church Av but it may or may not happen.

BTW - while some of the areas the G serves is "poorer" as mentioned by the other answer, some of the areas are starting to go a bit more upward.
