Why does the Honda Fit Sport get lower mpg than the regular Honda Fit?

All they have added is a spoiler, different wheels, sound, keyless entry, alarm... have they changed the engine? Why would the mpg be lower?

  1. Overall, its probably mainly the transmission and the engine . that creates a difference depending on whether its stick or automatic. More power pretty much means less efficiency. Also with more power , the engine is heavier. With more weight, you get worse mileage. Another factor in MPG is aerodynamics so the spoiler might making a difference on the drag. THe wheels might help or work against you. Higher performance wheels will have a lot less friction. this is where weight becomes a factor. So if the honda fit sport has better tires performance wise than the regular honda fit, then it should shouldn't be a factor of why the sport gets worse mpg. If they are downgraded compared to the regular, which sounds odd, than they are making your mpg worse and you should replace them to higher performance tires when the stock ones wear out. Also the sport tires could be heavier than the regular fit's stock tires. Stock means the ones it came with in case you didn't know. Good Luck with your research, I hope this helps you a lot. If not, talk to a honda representative at your local dealership or the master mechanic at the dealership or a regular mechanic at the dealership. whichever one you prefer. Hope this helps.

  2. Obviously you have a lot of answers from people that don't own Fits. I own one and the main issue is the wheels with low profile tires. If you want good mileage don't get a Fit. I have seen mileages well below 30MPG so if mileage is your concern the Civic is a better choice.

Now for the good news. I like the way it drives and the extra storage capacity in back when the seats are folded flat.

The 2009 Fit will be completely different and Honda will likely address the mileage problems.

  3. Isn't maybe because it's standard (shift)?..shifts have the tendency to save more fuel tha automatics!..

  4. Because the sport has other options added on like spoilers for example which makes the car heavier, therefore the mpg is lower.

  5. It should be the same because they have the same engine size and engine components. but if you're comparing automatic and manual transmission, there may be some differences in MPG

  6. The engine is a bit more powerful.

  7. heavier im guessing

the engine probably has to be bigger.
