  1. 1 big reason, revolution of the moon around the earth creates many faces of the moon around the planet on the same night.

speaking from the point of view of islamic caledar, difference between the date in a country like Saudi and a country like India can be explained due to the fact that GMT (so to speak) of islam passes thru the middle east.

  2. The lunar calendar has 12 months, and every month is either 29 or 30 days.  So when one doesn't sight the moon on 29th, the month completes with 30 days.

Lunar Calender can differ in different parts of the world for various reasons.  Mostly to do with the sighting of the moon, or sadly, sometimes it can even be uneducated people busy making their stance different from others.

The sighting of the moon must not be according to calculations, but actual sighting.  And therefore, it is normal to complete a month on 29th day in one place and 30th day in another place.

Also, when it comes to special dates, such as start of Ramadaan, this is when we actually notice the main differences.

And there is also the understanding that one must sight the moon locally or within an area (they have proof according to sunnah), another understanding is, it can be sighted anywhere in the world, or globally (they also have proof according to sunnah), then there is the scientific calculation.  The scientific calculation is completely not allowed according to the sunnah.

  3. Because the world rotates. We have a different time of the day here in Australia when people in the middle east are having a different time of the day for us as well.

  4. The Islamic or lunar calendar doesn't differ. It's different based on where you are in this world. An answerer above made a good point to you. Where there's only one sun, why is it day in this part of the world and night at the other part? Because the earth rotates.

  5. Why is it day in India and night in US,while there is only one sun??

  6. because the earth is a globe.according to the location your sight to moon varies. new moon starts at a certain time of the day. this line can be called new moon line. after the new moon line all places west of it get a new moon. for calendars are calculated according to calculation. but for religious majority of muslims depend on seeing by eyes.

  7. Because we see it from a different point of view(literally).

When there are clouds covering the sky most of the days, you don't set the calendar. Or, use highly advanced technology to see through the clouds. Do you know that's possible?

  8. lol this is one of the funniest q's yet.  Seriously my friend this one you did not think about.  The moon is not apparent in all parts of the world at the same time.  And where do you live, England??? to say that the sky is covered in clouds most of the day?  It is a rare day that the sky is covered in clouds where I live and so many other places.
