Why does the Melbourne FC call themselves 'Demons'??

Why call themselves Demons? That is a name for the devil and who wants to be called the devil? A silly choice I reckon.

Also Brisbane Lions: There are no lions in Australia, except in a zoo.

Port Power: Power is a silly name.

Fremantle Dockers: One of the silliest names Ive ever heard of for a sports team.

Geelong Cats ; Cats are slinky bird killing girls pets. A silly name for a football team.

Collingwood ; Magpies, another silly name. Magpies are a scavenger bird.

Carlton Blues ; Cant they think up something of a fearsome nature? Probably not with the team they have.

Essendon Bombers ; How stupid is that for a name of a footy team?

Hawks, Eagles, Crows, Swans, Tigers (good name because Richmond are black and gold), Saints, Bulldogs and Kangaroos are all right.

I like the demons for a name and i like all the names of the clubs we have,at least they are original and not in the mould of American style sporting names.

plus i don't get your logic-you hate collingwood but like swans?? you hate the demons but saints is ok?? Carlton aren't fearsome but what a swan is? you don't like lions because there aren't any in Australia but i cant remember when Ive seen a tiger in the bush (oh sorry its OK because they wear black and yellow??) what ever dude.

I reckon they are called the Demons to be strong. you know like they are tougher then other teams and powerful. Yeah true about the Lions. And how can you even classify Power and Blues as actual names?? is it meant to mean anyhting?? Yeah Dockers. lol. Thats funny. Cats lol. Like they are trying to be like Richmond and Brisbane. Cats dont seem that feirce. Magpies, thats alright kinda fits in with th bird theme alot of them have got.

Actually Cats are a pretty good name because most of the teams are bird names so yeah Bird Killing might not be that bad.

Back in the fifties the Dee's were playing c**p in a game so the coach in his half time address asked his players to go out there and play like Demons and the moniker stuck and that's how we became the demons, Geelong I believe used to be called the Pivotonions and Essendon I think were called the Fuchsias.
