Question:

Why does the Merritt Parkway, once you enter/leave Connecticut, begin/end with Exit 30 & 27?

It's actually confusing. If you are going northbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway (New York) into Connecticut, the last exit is 30 for King Street. Yet the same exit, southbound on the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut is exit 27! And from the southbound point of view, after Exit 27 in Connecticut, the next exit in New York State is Exit 29 for Rye Brook!

How did this happen????

  1. I have never been to Connecticut so I have no idea but you can call the CDOT or NYDOT and they might be able to help you with your question and if it is that confusing then someone needs to fix it .

    Good Luck

  2. The exits for the Merritt begin as the Hutch in NYC.  Some of the exits are northbound only and others are southbound only.

"The Merritt Parkway received the CT 15 designation in 1948. (Before 1948, the parkway had the unposted legislative designation 1A.) The CT 15 designation continues north along the Wilbur Cross Parkway and Berlin Turnpike to East Hartford. Exit numbers along the Merritt Parkway also appeared that year, continuing the original exit numbering scheme of the Hutchinson River Parkway. The first exit for the Merritt Parkway at the New York-Connecticut border, EXIT 27 (NY 120A-King Street), originally the last exit number for the Hutchinson River Parkway. (In later years, the exit numbers changed on the Hutchinson River Parkway, giving King Street two noncontiguous exit numbers: EXIT 30 on the Hutchinson River Parkway, EXIT 27 on the Merritt Parkway.)"
